West Nile Virus Cases Rising: Stay Informed and Protected

As of June 25, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have confirmed nine cases of West Nile virus this year across seven states: Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Experts warn that the virus is circulating more than usual for this time of summer.

Five of the confirmed cases were neuroinvasive, causing severe conditions such as brain inflammation, vision loss, and paralysis. With no available vaccines or treatments, the best defense is prevention.

The rise in global temperatures is contributing to increased mosquito activity. To protect yourself and your family:

  • Eliminate stagnant water sources around your home.
  • Use insect repellent when outdoors.
  • Wear long-sleeve shirts and pants, particularly at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.

Stay informed and take necessary precautions to reduce your risk of West Nile virus. For more detailed information, visit the CDC's website.
