Additional Invasive Aedes Mosquitoes Detected in Alameda County

May contain: animal, bee, insect, invertebrate, and wasp

The Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District has reported the discovery of four more Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in Pleasanton, marking the first local detection of this invasive species in a decade. The mosquitoes, found near the Alameda County Fairgrounds and surrounding neighborhoods, can spread serious diseases such as dengue, Zika, and yellow fever.

The district initially detected the mosquito species last week near Amador Valley High School. Since then, inspectors have been conducting thorough property checks, with about 25% of properties in the area inspected so far.

Ryan Clausnitzer, the district's general manager, expressed appreciation for residents who have allowed inspections, noting that monitoring efforts will continue over the coming weeks.

Residents can identify inspection staff by their uniforms and official identification. The district is also working with fairgrounds staff to enhance mosquito control efforts at the site.
