Shared Responsibility is our Secret Weapon to Beating Mosquitoes #FightTheBite

Los Angeles County continues to grapple with the threat posed by persistent nearly year-round mosquito seasons. This new reality, coupled with the County’s heavy rainfall in recent months, means that we expect an increased number of both nuisance and disease-carrying mosquitoes – underscoring why we must take preventive action now.

Therefore, it is of paramount importance that every member of our community, but especially property owners, take the time to comprehensively inspect their property and manage their yards to minimize any potential breeding grounds for these dangerous insects.

The Compton Creek Mosquito Abatement District operates under the philosophy of “shared-responsibility” – enlisting the entire community as partners in this effort. Realizing that it is all but impossible for our small staff to proactively monitor the entire District, we focus our energy on education and outreach programs to inform the community of simple steps that they can take to help improve the safety and wellbeing of our neighbors.

Specifically, we urge homeowners and community residents to keep their yards clean and ensure that junk, debris, and especially tarps – all potential areas for water to pool – are managed and properly stored to eliminate sources of stagnant water that mosquitoes favor for their breeding grounds.
